DR. Haidar Mahdi Hussain, B.Sc., M.Sc.

Biography:

Dr. Haidar Mahdi Hussain, B.Sc., M.Sc., was born in Baghdad (Iraq) on the 2nd of September 1972. Born from Iraqi parents, his father worked as a Medical Doctor, and his mother was an English Teacher. During his high school time, his interest in chemistry and engineering was growing fast; only to recognize that later his desire for learning was yet to be satisfied by learning more and more about chemical processes, reactor design, alternative sources of energy and nuclear chemistry.

Dr. Haidar, first encounter with the field of science as in academic education was when he was admitted to the Engineering College in the University of Baghdad in 1991, obtaining his first degree in Chemical Engineering (Bachelor Degree) in 1994. Shortly at the same year, another opportunity was set before him to continue for Master Degree in one of the universities abroad with a full scholarship offered by the non-aligned movement to study for that degree in Indonesia. Gadjah Mada University located in the Yogyakarta town was his first choice. After certain intensive course as an effort to learn and to master the Indonesian language, Dr. Haidar began to understand to huge difference in curriculum and methodology applied in that country, nevertheless shortly after the completing the language course, Dr. Haidar started his Master Degree studying program in the Chemical Engineering Department on the early of September 1995.  His Master Degree thesis was focused on the subject of heat transfer using Solar Energy as an alternative source for water heating. The thesis work was accomplished by late of 1997, and a publication copy entitled “Solar Heating of Air by Using a Flat Plate Collector in Combination with Heat Exchanging Pipes” of that thesis subject was published in the campus journal at the Postgraduate Program, however later on the same article was republished in another journal (Jurnal Teknologi Industri (TEKNOIN), vol. 10, number 1, March 2005).

Having his Master Degree certificate opened a new horizon for Dr. Haidar, to immediately start his Ph.D. Degree at the very same university. In 2005, Dr. Haidar just graduated from Gadjah Mada University holding a Ph.D. Degree in Chemical Processes (Separation Method Using Emulsion Liquid Membrane) with a predicate of Cumlaude from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The topic of his Ph.D. thesis was published in various journals and through some seminars “Advanced Manufacturing Technology seminar (July 17th, 2004), Rekayasa Material Anorganik untuk Kemandirian Bangsa seminar (6-7th September 2004), Indonesia Journal of Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology (Inject), vol. 3, number 2, November 2004, Jurnal Teknologi Industri (TEKNOIN), vol. 9, number 2, June 2004”.

During his Ph.D. studying time, Dr. Haidar has worked as a university lecturer in some colleges in the town of Yogyakarta, teaching several subjects like chemistry, engineering economics, mathematics for economy, operations research, engineering statistics, mass transfer and even as an English language instructor.
